Congresswoman Donna F. Edwards’ Statement on Housing & Urban Development Funds Reclaimed from Prince George’s County
Washington, D.C. - January 25, 2010 - (RealEstateRama) — Congresswoman Donna F. Edwards (D-MD) released the following statement regarding the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) reclaiming over $2 million in funds from Prince George’s County because the funds were not used within the five-year deadline.
“At a time when Prince George’s County needs all available assistance in dealing with the housing crisis, I am very concerned by the decision of the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development to reclaim over $2 million in funds from Prince George’s County because the County did not use the funds within the five-year deadline,” said Congresswoman Edwards. “Prince George’s County is second in foreclosure rates in Maryland and is in desperate need of these funds to develop affordable housing. I will continue to work with my Congressional colleagues, the Department of Housing and Urban Development, and officials in Prince George’s County to ensure all available federal funding is used to keep families in their homes and help communities meet their housing needs. I encourage Prince George’s County officials to take advantage of the technical assistance offered by HUD to ensure that the remaining $17 million is obligated before the upcoming deadlines, and before funds expire.”
