U.S. Census Questionnaires Mailed Out Next Week; Enumerators Reaching Out to Homeless Population on March 31
March 11, 2010 - (RealEstateRama) — The 2010 U.S. Census Survey questionnaires will be mailed to every household beginning next week. Residents should watch for their questionnaire in the mail, fill it out with information on every person living in their residence, and return it by April 1.
Because it is crucial that everybody is counted, Census enumerators will be out walking on March 31 between midnight and 7 a.m., in an effort to count homeless individuals living in various parts of the County. These areas are primarily wooded and urban areas. Montgomery County is focusing much of its efforts on counting those groups that are often underreported in the Census. On March 31, Census workers will be carrying flashlights and wearing reflective vests and hats with U.S. Census identification.
The results of the census will be used to describe the United States and local communities such as Montgomery County. The U.S. Constitution requires that a national census be conducted once every 10 years, and it is critical that everyone participate to ensure an accurate count.
Census Day is April 1, 2010. By that time, every household will have received a short questionnaire that is easy to complete and return. Questions regarding those residing in each household will include name, relationship, gender, age, race and whether the respondent owns or rents the home. Answers are confidential, as the Census Bureau cannot share an individual’s response with anyone, including welfare and immigration agencies. In May, Census takers will visit households that did not return a questionnaire.
