Van Hollen Congratulates Montgomery County on Eliminating Veteran Homelessness

Washington, DC – December 18, 2015 – (RealEstateRama) — Maryland Congressman Chris Van Hollen congratulated Montgomery County for effectively eliminating veteran homelessness after a coordinated local, state, and federal effort. This achievement would not have been possible without the efforts of the Montgomery County Executive, the County Council, the County Departments of Health and Human Services and Housing and Community Affairs, the Housing Opportunities Commission, and dedicated non-profits like the Montgomery County Coalition for the Homeless and Bethesda Cares.

“No veteran should live without a roof over their head, and the success of Montgomery County will surely help inspire others to make veteran homelessness a thing of the past,” said Congressman Van Hollen. “This remarkable achievement is a testament to the dedication and compassion of our community, and I’m proud to have secured support on the federal level to help accomplish this goal.”

Congressman Van Hollen has been instrumental in obtaining federal funds for the County’s effort through the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development’s Veterans Affairs Supportive Housing (HUD-VASH) Program, which combines rental assistance from with case management and clinical services provided by VA.
