Free Fair Housing Forum to be Held in Silver Spring

WASHINGTON, D.C. – (RealEstateRama) — April is Fair Housing Month and housing professionals and providers will have an opportunity to meet housing regulators at a free fair housing educational forum. The event is scheduled for Monday, April 25, from 11:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., at the Silver Spring Civic Building, One Veterans Place.

The “One-Stop Fair Housing Shop” is sponsored by the Montgomery County Office of Human Rights, the Interagency Fair Housing Coordinating Group and Montgomery County Human Rights Commission as part of the county’s recognition of Fair Housing Month. The forum is free and a complimentary lunch is provided.

The forum will focus on fair housing requirements for people with disabilities, reasonable accommodations, use of service animals, parking requirements, common ownership communities’ responsibilities, legal updates on the county, state and federal levels and new trends for a changing housing consumer base.

Guest speakers will include representatives from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development Office of Fair Housing and Equal Opportunity, Maryland Commission on Civil Rights, Office of Human Rights, Office of Consumer Protection, Office of Landlord-Tenant Affairs, Department of Housing and Community Affairs, and the Maryland National Capitol Park and Planning Commission. Continuing Education Unit hours may be available for those who qualify through the Maryland Real Estate Commission.

Montgomery County will provide sign language interpreters and other auxiliary aids or services upon request — with as much advance notice as possible, preferably at least three (3) business days before the forum. To request language interpreter services, including sign language, or other aids or services to participate in this event, call 240-777-8454 or Maryland Relay at 711. Taking these steps will give sufficient time to best meet your needs.

This is a free forum, but pre-registration is requested. For more information or to register on line, visit www.montgomerycountymd.gov/humanrightsor call Anis Ahmed at 240-777-8454.
