Columbia, MD – March 20, 2012 – (RealEstateRama) — Howard County Housing will host the 6th annual Come Home to Howard County Housing Fair on Saturday, April 14 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Long Reach High School, 6101 Old Dobbin Lane in Columbia. The event is free and open to the public.

The fair targets individuals and families who are interested in learning more about the diverse and affordable homeownership and rental opportunities available in Howard County. Attendees can meet one-on-one with more than 45 real estate professionals, mortgage lenders, and housing specialists, as well as attend signature education sessions and narrated bus tours that explore Howard County communities.

“We’re excited for this year’s Housing Fair because it’s a day for families to get together and learn more about the different communities and housing opportunities within Howard County,” said Tom Carbo, Howard County Housing director. “We hope that families come and participate in the activities and contests offered throughout the day, including the housing lottery.”

The Housing Fair will also feature two housing lottery drawings. This exclusive opportunity to purchase a home at a significantly reduced price is open to pre-qualified candidates.

The first home is a newly constructed townhome built by Ryan Homes, located in the Howard Square development in Elkridge, Md. This 3-bedroom, 3-bath space boasts energy-saving features, a new kitchen with stainless steel appliances and three floors of open design, allowing comfortable living for families of all sizes. The townhouse has also been upgraded to include a back deck for additional outdoor enjoyment. The sale price for this home, if qualified, is $209,813.

The second home is nestled in Laurel, Md. This 987 sq. ft. townhome is newly renovated with multiple green features, a beautifully remodeled kitchen, and convenient access to commuter routes. The sale price for this home, if qualified, is $140,000.

Candidates must pre-register for the drawings and submit all required paperwork by 5:00 pm, on April 11, 2012. Each home has different income qualification requirements so read applications carefully. The drawings at the fair will begin at 1:30 p.m. To be eligible to win, persons must pre-apply and be in attendance. Winners of the drawings will have the opportunity to purchase one of the two featured homes in Howard County, and may also be eligible for settlement down payment loans through the Housing Department.

The application form is available at www.howardcountyhousing.com or by visiting the Housing Office at 6751 Columbia Gateway Drive in Columbia. Visit the website for a complete list of pre-qualification requirements and lottery rules. No applications will be accepted at the Fair.

The Howard Square home in Elkridge is part of Howard County’s Moderate Income Housing Unit (MIHU) program. The townhome was recently built by Ryan Homes and offered for purchase through the program, which provides new homes at affordable prices to income-eligible families. The Hepburn floor plan and interior design integrate modern family living with practical energy-saving appliances and furnishings.

The Whiskey Run home in Laurel was acquired with Neighborhood Conservation Initiative grant funds from the Maryland Department of Housing and Community Development. The grant was awarded to address the negative impact of foreclosure and sub-prime lending nationwide by acquiring and rehabilitating foreclosed properties and preparing the homes for resale to moderate-income households at reduced prices.
