The Charles County Department of Public Works would like to remind citizens that the next household hazardous waste collection for this year will be held on Saturday, July 11.  The household hazardous waste collection site is located in the parking lot of the Department of Public Works building, located at 10430 Audie Lane, off of Radio Station Road in La Plata.   Collection hours are 9 a.m. – 3 p.m.

SDAT Warns Homeowners of Misleading Property Assessment Letter

The State of Maryland Department of Assessments and Taxation’s acting Director, Owen Charles, is warning property owners in Maryland to be on the alert for an official looking mailer from a private company with a misleading promise of a reduction in their property tax.


Existing homes sales in Maryland surged more than 20 percent in April, compared to April 2014, according to the Maryland Association of REALTORS® (MAR). Pending units, homes under contract, also rose significantly, by almost 20 percent, indicating a continued strong market as summer approaches. Active inventory rose slightly, while months of inventory—the supply of homes available for sale, dropped again, to 4.8 months. Six months of inventory is considered ideal.

McCormick Selects Hunt Valley Site as Preferred Location for New Headquarters

Court Avenue Construction to Begin in Ellicott City

The Maryland State Department of Assessments and Taxation (SDAT) recently announced the ability for businesses and tax preparers in Maryland to submit annual business personal property returns online. The Business Personal Property Return Filing Service is the latest addition to Maryland’s Central Business Licensing and Registration Portal (CBL Portal) which was created to make it easier to conduct business in Maryland.

Leggett Encourages Low-Income and Senior Homeowners to Apply for Property Tax Credit

WASHINGTON, D.C. - April 3, 2014 - (RealEstateRama) --Montgomery County homeowners who have a limited income or are at least 70 years of age may be eligible for property tax credits that will limit the amount of taxes they must pay. One application will determine eligibility for three programs – the Maryland Homeowners’ Property Tax Credit Program; the Montgomery County Supplemental Property Tax Credit; and the Montgomery County Senior Property Tax Credit. The application deadline is September 1, 2014.


Baltimore Congressional Delegation Announces More Than $1 Million for Affordable Housing

U.S. Senators Ben Cardin and Chris Van Hollen, Congressmen Elijah Cummings, Dutch Ruppersberger and John Sarbanes (All D-Md.) have announced more than $1 million in affordable housing grants for Baltimore City and the region, including: $322,500 for the Neighborhood Housing Services
